A 28 Mile Paddle For Charity - Garrett & Izzy Paddle for Surfer’s Healing and Surfer’s Environmental Alliance

Saturday, August 15th, 2009

In late August, Garrett will be in New York for a charity weekend that benefits the 3rd Annual Surfer’s Environmental Alliance.

The event kicks off on the 20th with the Block Party, continues with the celebrity and action sports stars-filled White Water Evening on the 22nd in New Jersey and culminates on the 24th with a 28-mile race around beautiful Manhattan’s East, Hudson and Harlem rivers!

Garrett has loved this event since it began, and many of his closest friends will be participating. The weekend will benefit a charity dear to his heart, Surfers Healing, which teaches surfing to autistic children around the country. The event will also raise funds for numerous coastal awareness groups.

“It feels so warm and good when giving back and sharing the sport I love and live for,” Garrett said.

G-Mac’s Quest for Big Wave Surf Featured on the Homepage of the Re-Launched LATimes.com

Saturday, August 1st, 2009

G-Mac’s search for the ultimate in big wave surfing was profiled as part of re-launching of the LA Times’ Web site.

The story was one of three videos featured on the new homepage, and it showed footage of Garrett’s successful mission to be part of the first team to ever attempt and surf the tsunami-sized waves made from collapsing glaciers.

In the story, he also discusses what motivates him as a professional surfer and what goes through his head as he rides some of Mother Nature’s biggest waves.

The story was one of the top rated features of 2009, and can be found here.
