FEAR
FEAR… I am pretty sure is something we have all experienced at one time or another. There are different ways to experience fear. We can be afraid of spiders, we can be afraid of heights, public speaking, confrontation, big waves, etc. The list goes on.
My husband, who rides the biggest waves in world, is afraid of horses. He is truly afraid of them. All of his children love horses. His oldest daughter, Ariana, is a cowgirl and buckle winning barrel racer.
Why is he so afraid? Because one time he had a horrible experience while riding a horse. So living in the past is definitely a sure fire way to keep the fear strong. I am petrified of getting pounded by a big wave. I had one bad experience in Nazare. I was actually the first girl to tow Nazare. I would never tell anyone that but Garrett is insisting I put it in this blog post. One bad wipeout and now, because of living in the past, I can only bring myself to surfing the tiniest of waves.
And how about conditioning? Conditioning from our parents? Teachers? Siblings? Peers? If we have a parent who is constantly worried about us getting hurt and afraid about every little thing it can carry with us to adulthood. If we have a parent that was always stressing about not having enough money to pay the bills, that fear of never having enough can stay with us and block the universe from sending abundance our way.
To summarize we create are own fear, or as Garrett likes to say we manufacture fear in our minds by not living in the present moment. If we are in the moment fear cannot exist because we aren’t thinking about what happened in the past or worrying about what could happen in the future. OR we allow the conditioning from the external world to latch on and we cary other peoples fear as our own.
Fear has the ability to prevent us from experiencing life to the fullest. Where does fear come from? How can we transmute it? This is where the practical information comes in handy. So how can we live the life of our dreams and have new thrilling experiences without letting fear stop us…
1- Get PCP (Present- Connected- Protected). As Kent Ewing taught us. If you are fully present in the moment then you are consciously connected to everything and everyone around you leading to being protected.
2- So how do you get Present? Aware? The easiest way I have found is through the 5 Senses Exercise. Its quick, easy to understand, can be done anywhere without anyone noticing and highly effective. Start by becoming aware of your breath. Begin visually noticing everything you can see in your environment…the colors, light, people, animals etc. Next take inventory of everything you can hear…music, cars, people, crickets. Then notice if you smell anything… perfume, food etc. What can you feel?… your clothes against your skin, the wind, the air condition, a fan. Lastly is there anything you can taste?
From this completely aware space you are able to get out of the mind that limits you. Its gets you out of the same story your mind is always telling you and connects you to your body and the world around you in that moment. You become an open vessel to receiving life gifts.
3- Take inventory of all the fears in your life that are holding you back from living your dreams. List even the ones that seem small and unimportant. Then go through each item on your list and figure out where the fear stems from. Is it from something that happened in the past or is it someone else’s fear that has been conditioned on to you. Once you can identify why you even have this fear you can let it go. The awareness that it isn’t yours in the first place is sometimes enough. Have a little ceremony where you burn the list that is no longer serving you. Thank your fears for all the life lessons and then set yourself free.
You are a limitless being who deserves to experience the highest vibration of life!
